There are a few questions I want to answer in this short article. Are self esteem and procrastination connected? Can you improve your self esteem by taking action and overcoming procrastination?

The connection between Self Esteem and procrastination

I'm sure I don't have to tell you that the two are connected and a lack of action and can make you feel that your life is going nowhere. This feeling leads to a lack of hope and a general negative overview of life. This is very damaging to your self esteem

The the reason why procrastination damages in your self-esteem is the fact that you will know inside that you need to take action today there are things that you need to do and for some reason you are not doing them. You may feel safer by not taking action but ultimately your self esteem will suffer.

Of course everybody suffers from procrastination. However, there is no doubt that depression makes it much worse if so you should be especially wary if you are depressed. Improving your self esteem will not only help you confront challenges and overcome procrastination you will also stop you feeling depressed.

I hope I've managed to answer the first question and showing you that procrastination and self esteem are linked. This is positive because this means that by taking action you can quickly improve your self esteem. However, in order to take action you need to confront any risk and you need to be confident and do whatever you can to feel good before you take action. Self-esteem will help you in this regard because if it will give you a more positive outlook and will make you feel more hopeful that taking action will be successful.

If you suffer from low self-esteem you are likely to be struggling with procrastination. So what can you do about this?

There are a number of things that you can do to overcome procrastination. I will briefly list the most important things that I can think of here. Go through this list will require taking action in order to start taking action so please push yourself! Procrastination is holding you back and you need to beat it...

  • sit down with a notepad and pen and try to work out why you are procrastinating. If you find this a little bit difficult just try to think about the advantages to you of not taking action. Also think about when you procrastinate.
  • listen to some inspiring music that gets you motivated
  • read some motivating quotes
  • start using affirmations and read them regularly
  • make a list of goals and break them into smaller steps
  • keep a success journal and note down every day when you start to take action
  • meet with a friend and discuss your plans
  • close your eyes and start to visualise a better life and things that you want in it
