The Newsletter which helps you to improve and build your level of self esteem

November/ December 2004

Welcome to the newsletter..

I have included for you this issue for the first time a few contributions from various people who themselves are trying to inspire others in the way I am. I have written a new article focusing on other's self esteem, I hope you will enjoy it. I felt to fit in with the season and in contrast to so many aspects of what is happening in the wider world it would be a good idea to think of others. Maybe we should all be much more careful about the consequences to others of how we act and what we say.

Christmas is almost with us again, so I wish you peace and happiness wherever you live,

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

INSPIRATION

Why Money is NOT Like Happiness

Few people spend enough time and thought cultivating their own happiness.  They seek indirect goals, like money and promotion, that may be difficult to attain and will prove when they are attained to be extremely inefficient sources of happiness.  Not only is happiness not money, it is not even like money.  Money not spent can be saved and invested and, through the magic of compound interest, multiplied.  But happiness not spent today does not lead to happiness tomorrow.

Don't Be Afraid to Play Through Life

Don't be afraid to play through life.  Retire from heavy thoughts.  Take everything with lighthearted wisdom.  We are heavy because we think we must make an impression, gain something, be somebody.  In spite of what society tells you, you need not be anybody at all in the eyes of men.  The only genuine need you have is to be a real human being.  Try to see this, try to feel it with all your heart.  Then you will know what it means to make the world your plaything

This month's article: Not only your Self Esteem by Karl Perera

You want to boost your self esteem. I would like to suggest that one of the most important things you can do is to help others build their self esteem. Try focusing outwards.

We are communicating with others all the time. When you consider other's feelings and show them respect their increased sense of self esteem will return the favour and in turn raise your own sense of self esteem.

As you become more sensitive to other people's self esteem and the consequence of what you say to others, your relationships will improve and others will respond to you in a much more positive way. The results of this will be so powerful and will include lasting friendships, deeper satisfaction and self-respect. You will become a kinder person and less self-centred. You will listen to others more and your popularity will soar. Sounds easy and it is!

How to build others self esteem

  • Spend more time with them and show them how important they are that you sacrifice your time to be with them
  • Show an example by treating them kindly
  • Encourage your children to make their own choices, helping them to consider options
  • Respect your partner's wishes by always discussing important issues with them first
  • Don't criticize others - ever!
  • Treat others as you would wish to be treated
  • Don't lecture your teenager, your child or your partner
  • Ask those close to you for their advice or opinions this shows you value them as a person
  • Apologize when you should

By far one of the most important things to remember in building another person's self esteem is that you need to respect that they are unique and have different views to your own which are equally valid. Rather than try to correct others when they disagree with you (this never works anyway) you need to show patience and lead by example. In a family reason and compromise will win out and lecturing a son or daughter is a total waste of time and energy.

By focusing on other's self esteem we can show an example which will in turn be followed by them. By this I mean if you show your son or daughter respect and help them to feel good about themselves then they also will act in the same way and will enjoy better relationships and lives. They will feel better about themselves and this in turn will reflect back to you and your self esteem will also increase. What's more, a household where high self esteem is experienced and encouraged by all members is a healthy and happy place. Friends and family will benefit from visiting so you will be contributing to your community.

So stop getting bogged down with your own self-analysis and inward examination and start to look outward. Start to appreciate others and spread self esteem unselfishly. You can only benefit. Start giving, after all Christmas is coming!

Merry Christmas!
