This month's issue comes to you a little late, sorry!
I have been back home in England for two weeks and on the beach in Cesme, Western Turkey on holiday and am writing to you from there. I have written an article about age and your self esteem, this is the first in a three-part series (part 2 next month about Self Esteem and your Job - will include how to cope with unemployment)
Hope you enjoy! Please let me know if you have any ideas for future articles.

This month's article: Attacks on your Self Esteem, part 1: Age
There are so many things in life which get in your way and cause you to doubt your sense of self worth. In this article, the first in a series of three I would like to address a problem which many visitors to www.more-selesteem.com seem to face, the fact that ageing changes how others see you and how this affects your own sense of self esteem.
Common views are held about older people, but just how old is old I hear you ask? Well, I am only 40 years old but if I try to find a job in certain fields younger people are preferred. It is not easy to change careers even at 40 which is certainly not old! If you're in your fifties then I'm sure that you will sometimes feel limited in your career choices. But either you will give in or you will fight!
Self esteem depends on how you see and think about yourself. Most sensitive people are very affected by what others tell them and how others treat them, they find it hard to feel good about themselves when they believe others look down on them or do not value them. You need to free yourself by determining that you will not let a minor thing like age be an obstacle for you, indeed it can and should be a benefit!
Age Advantages
Positive advantages of being older include:
There are perhaps many more we could add to this list, can you think of any you could add which apply to yourself?
You see being older carries with it many joys (grandchildren for example), happy memories, more time to take up hobbies.
Work and Age Issues
Generally nowadays it seems like age works against you in the job stakes. Everybody is looking for young, dynamic types and inexperienced people seem to sometimes get promoted to positions above their older counterparts. This is how it seems to be these days and maybe there is some truth in it but you must be positive! Whether your employer sees it or not, you need to have confidence in your ability to do the job, in the knowledge that your know-how gives you the edge over any younger person. Young people are very dynamic and confident, you need to be too!
In many jobs age is a bonus, like teaching where experience is highly valued. If you add energy to the mix you will be unbeatable.
It is a common attitude that older people cannot embrace change and technology. If you believe age is holding you back perhaps it is not your physical age but your attitude. Many older people happily adapt to change and technology, you must be willing to re-train if necessary and argue the case that training will be worth it.
Self Esteem
It is not only job prospects that affect your self esteem but attitudes towards you. Women are especially vulnerable in this society where youth and beauty is flaunted everywhere. But just think about the many successful experienced women on screen or in business, there are so many.
If you focus on your strengths and try to build on them, forget your age, young or old we are all unique and have so much to offer. Don't listen to others who try to put you down, make your case and make your age work for you!
If you need more confidence (and don't we all?) , then here's the answer..
FREE self confidence course which many have found very useful. I would also advise you consider getting the CD Trainer which is promoted throughout the course, the CD is not expensive and is wonderful, I listen to it regularly, it helps me, it'll help you too.
See you next month for part two....
