"Relationships and your self esteem"
In a poll I took on the website I asked - where do you most need to improve
your self esteem - guess what was the number one answer?
In your relationships!
This is hardly surprising as relationships are one of the biggest sources of
problems, misunderstandings, conflicts, disputes, stress and unhappiness.
Relationships are very important to us. They affect our self esteem and self
esteem affects our relationships. In this short article I would like to talk
about how and why self esteem affects your relationships and what you can do to
improve your ability to make lasting and mutually beneficial relationships which
will bless your life.
What is the connection between self esteem and relationships?
- If you have low self esteem you will come across as a negative person
lacking confidence. Others may take advantage of you.
- If your self esteem is high you will see yourself as equal to others and
this will gain you respect from friends who will treat you as an equal.
- Self esteem enables you to be more helpful to others, you will be more
positive and feel you have something to offer the world
- Be conscious of your partner/ friends self esteem and they will respond
likewise. Your friendships will be mutually beneficial and more likely to
last a long time
- Your partner will be happier and more fulfilled when he/she sees you are a
person who is strong and supportive and who has the character o survive
difficulties and challenges. Self esteem will help you with all this
- Low self esteem can lead to depression, abuse, problems at work and more.
Boosting your self esteem will not make you immune but will help you to
avoid falling into these desperate situations or will provide you with the
means to get out of these problems. You will not be afraid to seek help if
you need it
- You owe it to your family, which are your most important relationships, to
be an example knowing yourself and having the confidence to face the world.
Your kids will be happier too.
How you can improve your relationships
- Take care of your partner's self esteem as well as your own. Don't put
them down, build them up
- Do something fun together and don't be so serious! Lighten up your
relationship
- Talk about plans you'd like to achieve together, encourage each other to
follow dreams
- Talk about positive feelings and thoughts as much as possible
- Focus on your partner's good points and successes and help them to
recognize their success
- Don't be critical - this is double trouble as they will return your
remarks back at you and your mutual self esteem will suffer
Sign
up for this FREE
self confidence course which many have found very useful and I would
also advise you consider getting the CD Trainer which is promoted
throughout the course, the CD is not expensive and is wonderful, I listen to
it regularly, its great.
