How to know what you want from life

So you are not sure about what you want in life? Being clear about what you desire and need to feel happier is so important because it is one of the first steps towards a better life filled with self esteem!

Here are some great questions to ask yourself:

1. What interests and excites you most?

Think about what your real passion and desire is. Remember the times when you were really interested and excited by something you were doing. Think about why you enjoy it so much. It probably makes you feel good. Doing what you like is good for your self esteem.

Now think about how you can do this activity more.

2. What are you biggest successes in life?

No matter how small, list your most important achievements. This will raise your confidence and help you feel better about yourself. Acknowledging your successes is a good place to start because it highlights your talents and strengths and can guide you to where you need to go next.

3. If anything were possible, what would you choose to do and what would you want your life to be like?

A very big life-changing question but one which will enable you to start dreaming and imagining the possibilities. If you wish to improve your life then first you must imagine what is possible. Forget the limits you believe hold you back or stop you, most of these are in your mind and not real limitations.

4. What are your goals?

Here’s where you need to get clear and write them down – as many as you like. My advice is to think BIG and forget your mind’s objections. Anything that comes to mind write it out as a goal. Think about it, if you have twenty goals and can achieve only half then that’s ten successes. If you only have two goals and achieve half that is only one success, so go for it! See this page for more about how to create goals

5. Who is the person you most respect/ admire?

It is important to have a model, someone to look up to. This will enable you to understand that you CAN overcome problems and do what seems impossible, as others have before. Also, you can also understand more about yourself and the values you have because you can see them in the person you have chosen. Why did you choose that person? Answer this and you discover more about who and what you want to be.

6. What don’t you like to do?

It is important to realise what you do NOT like and do NOT want in order to figure out what you DO want in your life. Don’t let this become negative though, treat as a list of the things you want to remove from your life to make it better and closer to your dream.

7. How will you commit to getting everything you want?

This is the biggie! ıf you have answered the above life questions then you cannot just sit there, you have to take action. This is often the hardest step because problems will come, you mustn’t give up. You need a positive attitude. One of the biggest problems is fear and you have to be strong and have support to fight this when doubt arrives as it will. Decide how committed you are to your life changes and be determined 100% to work to bring about positive change in your life. How far will you go if things get tough? Who can you tell about your plans? Telling someone you can rely on is important. If that person is helpful and supportive they will also hold you to your promises. A friend is priceless in helping you commit. Remember that most successful people don’ focus on the negative they are both realistic and have an optimistic attitude.

First, Agusta I appreciate what you say. Being too kind is a trait many share and attracting those who take advantage can be a common problem, I sympathize. I have some good books on this page you might find helpful: http://www.more-selfesteem.com/books1.htm
